|
|
Hello y'all,
I recently removed several viruses from one of my users' computer running Windows 2000 : Gaobot, LoveGate, and a last one for which I don't remember the name.
All these viruses seem to have disappeared from the computer, but I recently noticed that it would not be able to connect to antivirus related sites. As a consequence, Symantec Antivirus will not be able to update itself.
Any idea of what I could do?
Cheers, Greg. |

Looks like one of the viruses may have altered your host file. Host file controls your computers access to websites. Search your computer files and folders for "hosts" (make sure the search includes hidden files). Now open your host file (it will be the entry "hosts" without an extension) using notepad. Your computer's own local address is 127.0.0 It should be the first in the list. Any other websites listed beginning with this address cannot be accessed because your computer just refers back to itself. Simply delete all the websites beggining with this address. (obviously leave your local entry intact). Save the file and exit. You should now have access to these sites again. |
