I know Im just supposed to use the disk to ormat XP, but its not working. It doesnt let me delete the partition. Any suggestions?

Here are 2 site that give a great deal of info especially the eldergeek. I recently went through what you are about to do I configured a dual boot setup) but I still say it sounds a lot worse than it really is.
Check out the site but don't forget to back everything up.
If following the steps doesn't work check back and I can probably help walking you through it (I have two kids so format and reinstall is a common thing here)
