|

Hey all---
I installed AVG the other day and ran it. it found several items and quarantined them; one of which was wtools, which is another problem to deal with.
I read somewhere (maybe here somewhere in another post response) about starting my XP in safe mode and running AVG, which I did, but I got an error saying it couldn't find a drive. After trying several times another window appeared (like the one that that comes from AVG) and I clicked on the compatibility tab which showed the different operating systems and it listed most all,but not XP. Went back to Grisoft and there is no info about system compatibility. Am Itrying to do something I can't?
Also a window is coming up about a trojan virus and it tells me to run AVG, and when I do, it doesn't catch. I also have an expired norton, does it have to be removed/disabled? I think I remember reading something about only using one at a time.
Thanks for any comments. |

First you need to completely uninstall Norton. Then make sure AVG is up to date and heuristics are on, then disable system restore and do a full system scan. If AVG says it can't remove the virus/trojan then open AVG's log and see where on your hard drive the virus/trojan is located and manaully delete it.

Thanks for the reply. Could you tell me a little about the heuristics you refer to? Is starting up in safe mode o.k.?, or do I actually have to disable something? Not very knowledgable about that stuff, I know how to do the f-8 thing. Then, if the scan doesn't remove, could you help w/tutorial? |

Hey, I removed/uninstalled Norton; updated AVG thru the program; read up on heuristics info provided w/AVG in the info section (shoulda done more investigatin' first), then re-started system, then again to get into f8 area. Went into debugging mode on my XP home edition, and ran AVG with nothing found @end of test. Should I have done the scan in another mode other than debugging? Replies from anyone greatly appreciated! |
