Can anyone suggest some tips for me, their web site does not have much in the line of support for their free version, which is understandable Smile

I am having problems and would like to test/scan my system in safe mode as all the instructions lead too, but I cannot.
For one thing I do not have a DOS command prompt option after I hit the F8 key on startup...is this normal for a WinXP system?
I am almost certain I have something effecting my system, so many goofy things happen, the "i" key brings up my calculator a lot but only when it wants to. I have a constantly flashing data light on my cable modem and my system has been very sluggish lately.
So I just want to scan my system in safe mode to make sure. Should I DL a different AV prog?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

I made a post w/similar question, wouldn't run in safe mode. showed an error-"can't find drive". Tried several times- then another window showed, it was like the one that would give all the info on AVG. It had a tab about what systems it was for. Itwas for lots of different ones including XP, but for XP Prof. not XP home. Did get it to run in debugging mode, w/no results. Maybe someone else w/respond. I was told to disable any other anti-virus programs, though, first.

I tried several different times and different ways, but it kept hanging up and would not start. It would show each time in Task manager but the prog wouldn't run openly.
So I just got rid of it, I wonder if it is possible that my AVG6 became (unknowingly) corrupted??
Any event I DL'd the trial version of NOD32, it is listed in the Virus section here. Right off the bat it found 3 virii (plural? lol) that AVG6 had no clue about.
I then rebooted into admin safe mode, re ran NOD32, it found nothing; same for my user account on WinXP in safemode.
I posted logs from HiJackthis in the other forum and know I will get a response soon. I can only imagine the amount of time these people spend helping others for nothing! Much thanks and kudos goes out to them!!
The wealth of info here has hopefully helped walk me through everything so far I only hope that my logs get checked to make sure I didn't miss anything Smile
