|
I puchased the original Pink Floyd albums many years ago and thought they were great then listening on a mono player and having an out of body experience.
I have spent this afternoon listening to them all on an MP3 disc played through 5.1 dolby system with Sub Woofer. I'm hearing stuff that I never heard before, absolutely stunning pure phsycodelic.
Just as good, if not better than anything out today. |

Got to agree with you there! I'm a Floyd fan from when they were new. I had stereo back then but I know what you mean. There's something about vinyl that CDs cannot duplicate.

Would never have had you down as a Floydy.
You will no doubt recognise my last comment on what's the point

Yeah right, all that crackling and jumps, dust on the needle, what great days we are missing with this crystal clear stuff that we have to listen to these days.
Most of the time though, we were too pissed to even notice. Ah the youth of today don't know what they are missing
Floyd, Deep Heat, The osmonds.....

Nice to have the time to actualy listen to the music isnt it and then go into a meaningful discussion on the merits instead of throwing up over that girl yerve been fancing all night.
I prefer the MP3s where I can take a couple of CDs and play them all day long. Pure stress relief.

I find it so funny that the kids today go on about how we haven't a clue what we are talking about and switch off real quick when we did exactly the same back when we were their age.
Music might be different but the issues are the same
I haven't got into MP3s yet, might have to have a look at that.
I remember driving home one night in my youth, 4 in the car, all pissed as and when I got up in the morning the spew down all four doors of the car had corroded the paintwork.

It's the Acid that did the damage, I burned a hole in the floor covering when I lived with my parents, I left it on all night.
I was lucky my folks used to sit and discuss the latest music with me when I came back from the Pub, cause that was the only time they could get a word in. It's funny how you "know" that you know everything when you are 16 years old is'nt it and it's even funnier when at times you think you still are 16 when certain records come on |

Crystal clear yeah, but on CDs you only hear the notes! On vinyl you can hear the effort made by a muscian playing a great guitar riff. It's more like Live music, really being there!

Yeah, I know, it was my attempt at being funny. Theres nothing like being there (in vinyl or live)
I have a mate that has even managed to reproduce the vinyl sound on his CDs (he recopies them with the sound included) can't quite get the "fingers sliding along guitar strings" sound but he has duplicated the crackles real well.
Can't say that its the same though but its amazing what some will do for a hobby
