|
|
Hi,
I've been using Proxomitron for a year or so without problems. I've just switched from dial up to broadband and doing hte proxy server thing in the LAN settings worked OK to start with (first day only!). But now it's stopped working and I can't get the browser to work with Proxomitron at all (even when it's in by-pass mode).
I tried setting just html to localhost 8080 and setting all but no joy.
It's not a port conflict is it, can I use a differnt number to 8080? Er, which number.
I'm usgin IE6 and win98.
any help much appreciated

Hi jfs,
Hmm...you can use any port you want, but I would stay above port # 5000, say 8000.
It doesn't sound like that will help you though. Start up proxo & open a log window then fire up your browser & go somewhere. If you don't see anything in the log window, then its time to double check your browser settings.
For IE, goto Tools>Internet Options>Connections>Lan Settings>
and make sure "Proxy Server" is checked & "Bypass Proxy Server" is unchecked. Then click the "Advanced" button and make sure the settings for HTTP is localhost and the port number is 8080. Verify "Use the same proxy server for all protocols" is unchecked. Also "Exceptions" should be empty.
HTH

I started the log window then IE but nothing shows up.
I double checked the settings and they were as expected except that 127.0.0.1 was in the exceptions box. I deleted this.
Unless I have the "Use the same proxy server for all protocols" is checked, when you OK the Advanced settings thing localhost and 8080 doesn't show up greyed on on the connections window, but whether you have "Use the same proxy server for all protocols" checked or not, it doesn't work.
When I refreshed my home page, it said Connecting 127.0.0.1 along the bottom then the page not found page. It does the same for any website.
When I uncheck the use a proxy server checkbox, it works OK.
I found another free popup suppressor (CleanMyPC) so the urgency has gone really, but I'm interested to know how come it worked to start with but not since.

I have Proxo on W98SE with IE5.5SP2 and on XP with IE6SP2. I have these settings on bothboxes. If I did not have "localhost" in the exceptions box, I would not be able to connect.
