Hi blubby!
Remember me?
Well, you've got problems again I see. Have you been doing regular scans with Adaware and Spybot? Spybot updates every month or so. Adaware updates 2 or 3 times per week. I do a full Adaware scan after doing a full AV scan every two days. and I keep them updated.
Did you get a firewall? Try the one in my signature. If you root around on their board you can get the freeware version. Check their downloads section. It is newbie friendly.
Here's a link that tells you all about firewalls: http://www.gen-x-pc.com/security.htm
As for your browser troubles, you may be hijacked, have a virus/trojan? Do a Hijackthis log (you can put it here) so I can see if there is a problem.
Thanks. Good to see you again.

hey prince serendip! Nice to see you again. You sure helped me on my last problem. Thanks, I'll get a firewall. I"m just afraid that firewalls will prevent my access to sites. |

wait prince_serendip I have a router. It's D-Link. Does this have a firewall? The page says that routers have secure firewalls. |

A router is not enough. You still need a software/hardware firewall too.
Most consumer routers have decent firewall capabilities (as a byproduct of their NAT/PAT functionality)... as long as you don't open any ports in them for external access. Still more can be achieved by using a true firewall, but in a general sense you are somewhat safe, NAT/PAT is a good first line of defence.
If you do open/forward ports, the need for a software/hardware firewall to monitor traffic becomes more apparent: NAT simply forwards the packets without any further inspection/verification. SPI, content-filtering and attack logging are just a few of the additional features that a firewall can provide.
Your firewall does not block access to websites. It helps you to determine which programs have access from and to your computer.
I have a D-Link Router too and I use a firewall.
(NAT stands for Network Address Translation, PAT for Port Address Translation, and SPI for Serial Peripheral Interface Bus.)
