|
|
Hi All! New to the Board.
When I disable Norton Firewall (NIS 2004), I'm able to get my Comcast connection. Here is what I've tried so far that has not worked:
I created a rule to allow all Comcast connections. I added Comcast's site to the permitted sites in Ad Blocking which had previously corrected a problem using Internet Radio. I checked to see if a startup program was interfering with Norton (it wasn't). I checked to make sure XP's firewall (ICF) was disconnected so there would be no firewall conflicts. Under Internet Options in IE I checked the Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections. Phew! None of these actions have resolved my problem.
One other possible problem I can think of is that perhaps Norton Firewall is not able to access my ethernet card (NIC) that my Comcast modem is connected to. I've searched all over the net and can't find out how to create a rule or somehow configure Norton Firewall to allow it to communicate with my NIC (currently I'm using a Broadcom Integrated Controller). Could this be my problem and if so does anyone know how to fix this?
The only other possible conflict is that when I bought this Dell computer, I had installed a Linksys router on it and then removed the router since I sold my second computer. But since I had originally set up a network on this computer could that be interfering with Norton or confusing the firewall? I'm not sure how to check and see if the network is still set up and if so how to get rid of it.
I'm at my wit's end on this problem. I've spent over two weeks and a lot of downtime in my business from not being able to connect to the internet and if I do connect, worrying about being without firewall protection.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I have a similar problem except mine is not related to Norton Firewall... With my problem, the internet connection is blocked until I close RUNDLL from the process list, and sometimes it does not even work then. I checked my Local Area Connection and it listed that I had sent a great deal of packets, yet the computer was idle during this time (while IE would not load, etc.). Could the problems be related? Try closing RUNDLL and let me know its affect

Try opening a dos command window start/run/cmd or command . Once in the dos window type ipconfig /all . Look for the IP address of your DHCP server and add the IP address to Personal Firewall/Internet Zone Control/Trusted in Norton Internet Firewall. The DHCP server is respondisble for assigning you an IP address and if the DHCP server is getting blocked that "might" be the reason you cannot connect to the internet.
Another thing you can try is making sure Norton Firewall is enabled then going into the dos command window and typing ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew and see if you are getting a new IP address. |
