what kind of a command line did you expect to see from this info:

" Server > POPFile > MWP
The POPFile Documentation Project includes a good section on how to set up proxies (the "Configuring Proxies & Firewalls" section). Extrapolate that explanation to this case - i.e. MWP (not your email client) is to be proxied via POPFile, so that's where you change the account's User name field setup to pass on the mail server address info as 'your.POP3.server:username'.
Server > B9 > email client
Placing B9 in the path works differently - the host file is used to configure B9 addresses. In that case, the Username field isn't used to pass server address info. Instead, your email client must have the POP3 server address field pointing to 'your.POP3.server.B9' and your host file must define the loopback address to be substituted for 'your.POP3.server.B9' (something in the 127.98.9.n range). Command line? I was just giving you some separate tips for both the server > POPFile > MWP path and server > B9 > Outlook path setups. If you have any specific questions, quote just the specific statement and ask away.

Benign was automatic in it's setup and changed to port 256. My setup for MWP, POPFIle did not change from before I added Benign. So it seems I really haven't daisy chained any sequence of events greater than I already had. |
That's good 'cause MWP and POPFile should not change when B9 is added. So your Server > POPFile > MWP path works OK?

I thought your were suggesting I employ this bit of command for MWP. Do I use this chaining at all?
Quote: |
"Using http://127.0.0.1:8080/configuration, set the POPFile listen port to 123 and the POP3 host:port:user separator character: to a percent sign %.
Change the mail client's setup as follows:
pop3 server: 127.0.0.1
pop3 port: 123
username: 127.0.0.1:124%pop.isp.net:110:user " |

Did you get this info from the POPFile Documentation Project? Sorry if I misled you but the reference was intended to give you a general idea as to how proxy chaining is accomplished. No need to get that fancy unless you intend to add another proxy to the chain. I should have more properly referred you to the Configuring Specific Mail Clients section of the HowTos page. Keep in mind, that MWP isn't listed so you'll have to extrapolate how to set up MWP using the listed client configs as examples.
As to AV and AT, Wayward has it right. If you get B9 working but it then stops working, it's possible the host file has been modified back to it's original settings by the AV/AT program.

thanks to you too Wayward, the processing log revealed this series of events. www.cywash.com/b9log.gif
It seems if the connection is being dropped I should be able to go in and toggle "never drop" or reconnect somewhere instead of cleaning everything to a pre b9 state, rebooting and loading accounts, which I just did, sent myself a NY Times article (the entertainment portion of our program) and it came in fine and this is b9's processing log:

It'd be helpful if b9 gave a time for these events.
Am I getting warmer? I only have Zone Alarm full version as protection. No AV or AT |

the latest on May 31st. it seems b9 is functioning "on demand" connecting when Outlook's send/receive is activated then dropping the connection is that proper? I put in the ouch marker (so I could tell where the log began and ended, (how 'bout a time marker for these events)) and then did a send/receive here's the results from that activity.

Maybe these programs just had to wear themseves in, for all intents and purposes these programs are synching up and functioning ok. If there was a remedy it could only be try and try and try again. A lot of cleaning out of the b9 apps, resetting ports in Outlook, rebooting, and reloading accounts to b9. So it goes.................. thanks Ikeb for hangin' in there, and wayward for your input too. Cheers, Mc. |
