Hello:

I initially posted this to the NAV Forum, but it may be a more general Symantec issue.

I use:

Norton Personal Firewall 2003

Norton AntiVirus 2004

My OS is: Windows ME

When I run the online Symantec Security Check at :

http://security.symantec.com

it fails to detect that I have NAV 2004 installed. The other parameters of that security scan are all negative.

AutoProtect is enabled and the main console of the NAV 2004 shows that the System Status is OK. There are green checkmarks next to each of the NAV's console features. The virus definitions are dated June 2, 2004. I performed the Eicar Test String test to see if the NAV was actually working. Both the AutoProtect feature and the Scan for Viruses feature were able to detect and delete the "infected" file.

I have also run the Automated Support Assistant at the Symantec Support site. It shows that the NAV 2004 is up-to-date and gives the correct NAV version number and the date of my latest virus definitions. A similar check of my Norton Personal Firewall 2003--via the Symantec Automated Support Assistant --shows it to be in good status.

I am puzzled by the results of that Symantec Security Scan:

It reads in part:

<<<<<<

Scan Results:
The scan did not find a recent version of a commonly used antivirus program on your computer. You might have an outdated version (more than one version old) or you might have an antivirus program installed that is not detected by this scan. Since virus technology changes continuously, current virus protection is essential for your computer's security. Because of the significant investment in maintaining current antivirus technology, protection from a popular antivirus company is your safest choice.

>>>>>>>

I scanned my PC for viruses using the installed NAV as well as the online Symantec viral scan. I also used a non-Symantec online viral scan, just to be sure. No viruses were found.

Why does the Symantec Security Check fail to recognize the installed NAV 2004?

I had no such problem with this same scan a few weeks ago.

I am puzzled as to why the Symantec Security Scan recommends that I install NAV to resolve this when I already have such an updated program installed.

Thanks in advance:

-elio
