'ello to one and all. I'm new at this site and would appreciate if anyone could help. I encountered the above problem after every Spybot scan and it says "There is a security hole in IE allowing website to execute code without asking you first" How do I fill the hole?

The other problem I'm encountering is, everytime I install Spywareblaster I get the following message "This program has been damaged, possibly by a bad sector of the hard disk drive or a virus. Please reinstall"

I have scanned and defragmentate my drive and have found no bad sector/s and virus (possibility pc-cillin and spybot did not detect).

Will be much obliged...............thanks

Usually by updating your IE at the MS Update website. Very Happy

Howdy,

Did you update yet? If not then do so and let me know if you still have the problem.

Thanks a MILLION for responding! I took your advice and went to MS update IE but all I saw was Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and I have dowloaded it. Scanned with Spybot but problem not unsolved. Am I suppose to download the SP1 or something else? if so please let me know exactly what to download and where. Please advice.

Will the anti-virus you recommended clash with.....Pc-cillin, Spybot and SpywareGuard

Much obliged..........Thanks

Howdy,

Download and install all available patches and updates.

AVPE does not clash with your stuff as far as I know.

I have to apologize here as I'm a little dull. I would appreciate if you could specify the exact download/s as I have downloaded all security updates as you have suggested.

Thanks a MILLION!!

Howdy,

MS checks your system and suggests downloads (patches and updates) that you should download and install- real simple take eveerything they have to offer except for the language stuff(unless you need it). When you have done this post a new HJT log to check.

Hi!

mrrockford is right. As long as your system is fully patched with all the critical updates at windows update, the DSO exploit isn't a problem.

It's being reported by spybot because of a bug in the current version. Provided your system is patched via windows update, you have nothing to worry about and can just ignore this until the fix comes out. Smile

Very Happy Thanks a MILLION satchick! most appreciated! I was worried for a moment that with it hanging around it might spread and one day it just might go poof! and I'm done for! By the way will it go away if I reformat? (just curious)

Thanks again Very Happy Its caring people like yourself that makes a difference!!!

No, reformatting won't solve the problem.

It's not a virus or other malware. An exploit is a problem, a bug in the windows code, but in this case its spybot reporting the exploit in error as microsoft has issued a patch for this exploit, so as long as you have all the latest patches, your system is not vulnerable, despite what spybot is saying.

Glad to have been of help. Very Happy

Hi Everyone,

I've been getting a few PM's on this one, probably from this thread.

So to clarify, the DSO exploits found by Spybot are nothing to worry about as long as your system is kept up to date with critical updates from Windows Update. It's a minor issue with Spybot that will be fixed soon.

For a good detailed discussion about this, follow the link provided by Helpless above.

CalamityJane, a security expert on staff here, also has an explanation about it at this link:

Hope this clears things up Very Happy

NOTE: I am closing this thread as the problem appears to be resolved. Should you need it reopened, please PM a mod.
Everyone else having a similar issue, please launch a new topic for yourselves.
