|

Hope this isn't going to sound too long-winded! Be as concise as possible!
I have a W2k Pro PC, not part of the domain but on a flat LAN that can access the Micorsoft Windows Update site and download loadsa updates time after time, no problem.
When I join it to the domain it no longer can install the updates (It scans the PC, you can select what updates you want to download but when you click the install button you get "Administrators Only". This happens for every computer on the network, including PDC logged in as Domain Admin.
There is no proxy on the network but they are behing a firewall.
Because it works off the Domain and not on it - I thought it smelled of Group Policy, but theres only the default one with just Password/Account Lockout enabled. Then, if it was Group Policy it wouldn't let you get to the site to select the updates - have verified this on a test site. If I take it back off the domain, it works fine?!?!?!
I can't imagine it being Firewall related (not sure what the're using) as the error looks like a windows setting/issue. I've looked at permissions on Registry Keys, Local & Group Policies where you can disable WindowsUpdate.
Is there anything you can think of that might be causing this or that I can check for? Its an interesting one!
Thanks - Paul ([email protected])
