|

I have been running MW Pro for two months with no problem. Today it will not download any mail details, it just shows a new line for the email, but no details, ie who from what time etc.
I reinstalled but no change, I have tried on two other PCs but still no good, it all works just no details so no list created.
I spoke to my ISP who tell me they upgraded imail to version 8.11 last night, this is the only change so I am guessing this must be the problem.
I have an IMAP account with www.hostinguk.net please let me know how to get MW to work or refund my money.

28 People to date have looked at this and not one reply, the bottom line is that either MW or imail 8.11 have a problem, if it is MW then this is a major issue, forget missing the ocasional spam this is the program just does not work.
I would have expected to see some more action to resolve this potentially huge problem.
Russell - The guy who payed for the pro version of MW and has still got an inbox full of spam. |

Since MW works with a variaety of IMAP servers (AOL, Netscape, Exchange, etc.) I'd guess your original analysis that the new server software is the problem seemed sound - and nobody saw the need to comment further or offer opinions until that avenue had been persued.
I use IMAP accounts on several servers, so I can speak with a bit of authority.
When you connect to a POP3 server, you login, perform whatever operations you wish (fetch mail, for example) then log off. Short. Sweet. Not logged in for more time than it takes to perform the operation.
IMAP accounts are different. You login and stay logged in for the entire time your email client is active. This can be minutes, hours, days, etc.
When you login to a mailserver (POP3 or IMAP), the account is 'locked' (so that a second agent can't come along and change the account while the first is accessing it). When a second agent comes along and wants access, the server must resolve the issue. Some (most) just kill the old connection and permit the new one. Some (few) reject the new connection in favor of the original.
So, you see, the basic rub with IMAP servers is: They're rather incompatible with having multiple agents accessing them at the same time (like MW and your email client.)
From personal experience, I get disconnected from the IMAP servers because of this quite frequently... it's an annoyance, but something I have to live with. In your case it's probably gone from your being totally unaware of the issue to a show-stopper.
My guess is that when they upgraded the server software, the method that was used to resolve the mutiple clients changed from one that was farily transparent to you to one that is a bit more of a 'deadly embrace' that is now preventing MW from getting enough of a session display anything meaningful.
There are no provisions for resolving this issue except by procedural means on the part of the user (that is, MW can't program aorund the issue). You will just have to make sure that your mail client is closed when you use MW.
Many places that offer IMAP access to email also offer POP3, too. If your ISP offers both, you might consider switching over to POP3 access. You won't be able to get to other than the inbox, so that'll be a drawback if you're heavily into mailboxes with your IMAP account. When using POP3, you will still be subject getting locked out with 2 clients going - but because POP3 login time is small, there is usually never a noticable conflict.

So yet another reason for the MWP proxy mode. .... I'm losing count.

I have spent a lot of time today working with my ISP, every setting on my account has been fully checked and double checked, there is nothing untoward and the imap account is working great with every mail reader outlook burbery, and half a dozen others have been tried, except MW.
I have shut down every other pc and server except the one running MW and I made sure this pc was not running any mail software at all, just to test your theory above, but whatever I do MW sees only the size of mails.
My ISP have also made contact with Ipswitch who supply them imail and I will let you know how they get on with that.

If you truly are having that much trouble you should make an extended log and send it off to firetrust for analysis. They can look at it and, perhaps, advise.
Instructions for making the extended log (and where to send it) are in this post: http://www.computercops.biz/postt47025.html#196895.
When you sent it, either reference this thread in the cover email or describe the problem briefly in the cover.
When you make the exteneded log, all transactions with the mail server will be recorded therein (passwords are hidden). You might find it helpful to extract some of that information to share with your ISP, too. |

I sent an extended log file to Firetrust, 3.5 meg to be precise, so that should be extended enough.
The problem is more that MW does not see the full email details on the server, so does not see them as spam, or anything else for that matter, the only bit of info MW downloads is email size.
I have tested half a dozen email readers and about a dozen Spam Filters, all of them accesed the mail no problems.
I am now using a 15 day trial of Spam Inspecter and this is performing faultlessly, if I have not heard form Firetrust or my ISP with a fix in the next 14 days, I have no choice but to go with another spam filter and ask Firetrust to refund my money as I get 50+ spams a day and there product can not catch any of them.

Ah, they did reply...on the 9th...which then was rejected "User mailbox exceeds allowed size: "
So as below, if you can reply back to one of the previous support mail replies with below...
"Can you find out from your ISP what the name of the IMAP software they are using is? Also, if you could send us a socket log file (located in the same folder as the debug file), that would be great.
We will try testing with your ISPs version of IMAP once we get this
information back from you." |

Have given up waiting for an answer and found another solution to keeping my inbox clear of spam.
As no one has come back to me I must suspect the problem lies with Mailwasher also I have tried many other mail clients and spam programs over the last few days with everyone except Mailwasher being able to read the mails, so now hope that Firetrust will refund the money I payed as there product fails to catch even 1 spam out of 50 a day.
Buyer beware if you use IMAP and your ISP uses imail and many do, Mailwasher may not work.
A unhappy customer
