|
|
I recently had a dual boot system (xp and win98). Win98 was on drive C and XP on drive D (both FAT32). I gave the boot to the dual boot and now only have xp on my computer which is still on drive D. I want to use drive C to store personal files. Now I want to format drive C because when I deleted all the files about 0.5 GB is still being used even though I see nothing on it. When I try to format it in DOS I get the response, “System partition is not allowed to be formatted.” Is there any way to format my drive C so that I can get back all of my 18.6 GB of space?
Thanks in advance. |

Since you are using two operating systems, the best way to retrieve the real size of your hard drive is a clean reinstall, Debug first, Fdisk, Format, Reinstall.
To debug: insert bootdisk in A:
type the following:
note: if system has 2 or more hdds, remove ide cables from other hdd's that doesn't need to be debugged
a:>debug
-F 200 L1000 0
-A CS:100
xxxx:0100 MOV AX,301
xxxx:0103 MOV BX,200
xxxx:0106 MOV CX,1
xxxx:0109 MOV DX,80
xxxx:010C INT 13
xxxx:010E INT 20
xxxx:0110 (Leave this line blank. Press the <Enter> key to continue.)
-G
Program terminated normally
Restart system
Type fdisk at A prompt
Restart system
Put OS cd to format (directly install os)
- this is for XP OS. |
