|
|
My whole friends list in mailwasher pro keeps being deleted. It's happened twice just today, but it has happened in the past too. Does anyone know why this happens, also does anyone know of an easy way of saving a friends list and adding the whole list together rather than individually if i do lose it. For instance could i just add the whole address book from my email programme as friends |

If you navigate to the MW datadirectory (See Help => About) you will see that a backup already has been created and is called blacklist.txt.backup (the blacklist also contains all your friends addresses). I always run a batchfile once a day that is activated by my taskmanager and that copies the MW directory to a second harddisk.
Shut down MW if you restore your blacklist.txt.

Older versions of MW held the friends list in memory while MW was running - and any changes were only written out when the program closed. Because of this, changes to the friends list were sometimes lost if people closed windows while MW was still running (as opposed to exiting MW before shutting down windows).
This hasn't been a recent complaint with the current version of MW (they've put in workarounds for this), so I expect that you're either using an older version or have some other thing going on (like file caching in an in-line virus scanner.)
Anyway, the best work-around to this (especially if a third party thing like a virus scanner is the culprit) is to make sure to exit MW before shutting down windows. This will cause everything that should be written to disk to actually be written.
