A Problem With B9. Remember you read it here first.

Ok, I think I have pinned it. For b9. When I shut computer down, the hosts file entries are deleted. Then obviously when I re-start computer the Hosts file settings are not there. I have to open, each time, and manually add the b9 settings to System32 hosts file for it to function properly. It works every time. Wink

In my opinion what is required is some way to make the hosts entries stick in the hosts file. Rolling Eyes

Somethings not right. My host file entires haven't changed in many months. Did you save changes made to the file?

Yes I do, there's no way out. I get a popup asking if I want to save the changes to Hosts file. Obviously I always click "yes".
Be interesting to see further replies on this.
For easy access I have hosts file settings saved in "My Documents".

Further to first post. I have, "when I shut b9 down". That should read "shut computer down".

I have a shortcut from System32 hosts file on desktop to save me going half way around the world to get it each time.

Some other application must be overwriting the changes you made when that application is shut down. Do you have an AV running by any chance?

Try shutting your AV down before making changes to the host file.

If that doesn't work, try going to safe mode, make the host file changes required for B9 and then reboot.

Try shutting down everything before making changes to the host file. You might have to terminate processes via Task Manager to make that happen.

Looks like SpyBlocker is thee problem or part of the problem. I must have put the b9 entries in hosts.bak. I know this is no good. When I opened the start-up items one by one they were all looking for hosts.bak.
When I opened SpyBlocker everything turned OK. hosts file was alright
I done what you said, close all down and then put the b9 entries in hosts file, when I shut down again and restarted it was back to usual scenario.
In hosts file it reads across the top "Modifacations by SpyBlocker Software."

Seems like SpyBlocker is being extremely arrogant. Like "no one else can use the host file, it's mine."

You might want to check the SpyBlocker help info and/or check their support documentation. This may be a feature to prevent hijacking of the host file by some nefarious program. If this is the case, there should be a way of bypassing that feature for other programs needing to legitimately modify the host file.

Ikeb, it does look like SpyBlocker is the culprit, I uninstalled to-day and used another hosts file that was there and seemed OK. I wonder if there could be a way to work from another hosts file?

I just read your thread at the spyblocker forum wandrinstar . I also had to remove it a week or so ago after trying spyblocker out . It would not let me utilise benign , and i could not access my mail . . I must say i am not that savy to perhaps work out the solution . I would like to use spyblocker but not at the expense of benign.
