I would expect that virus detection and removal should be unobtrusive, but Norton fails on this score miserably
I’m running Norton AV on a number of personal systems in two homes, and the main computers are running Windows 2000. I use MS Outlook to retrieve email from a POP3 server. Since I run several popular home-grown web sites, a lot of people have my email address.
Norton generates numerous obnoxious dialog boxes for all the incoming viruses, and I have to click to get rid of them. The worst problem is that when I am not on the computer and an email with a virus comes in, a dialog box appears, but apparently the message is not fully retrieved. So when Outlook again checks for email awhile later, a 2nd copy of the dialog box appears.
The effect is that with Norton AV, a single incoming virus can generate 40-50 dialog boxes overnight if I leave Outlook running.
I seem to recall hearing somewhere that this is an issue with Norton only if you are running Windows 2000, but can’t find any information about the problem, and refuse to pay Norton about something like this.
So I’m looking for a solution that doesn’t have this problem, and would like to know which of the major virus packages are the least intrusive. |

Hi claire, I won Nod32 V2 from wilderssecurity last year. I try to follow the forum and there is a great diversity of opinion there. It makes it difficult to form an opinion. I must mention also I won b9 from here.
