As i was searching through my Task Manager, i came across this. I do not usually see this file. I remember reading some virus prevention article a while back and remember seeing this name affiliated in there.
Is this a virus? (i do not recall downloading/installing anything by this name)

Sometimes it is normal.

Download Hiajckthis at: http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/
Unzip to a convenient permanent folder, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".
When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, load it in Notepad, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-qus10.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-qus10.hpwis.com/

These ones are optional to remove, but removal will speed up your pc and its performance. You can still access them manually by clicking on the icon. They usually arn't malware, just a resource hogs. I recommend you fix them, your decision.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinVNC] "C:\Program Files\RealVNC\WinVNC\WinVNC.exe" -servicehelper

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DeadAIM] rundll32.exe "C:\PROGRA~1\AIM\\DeadAIM.ocm",ExportedCheckODLs

Go to START>.ALL PROGRAMS..ACCESSORIES>>SYSTEM TOOLS>> DISK CLEAN UP>> and clean everything...

Go to start >Run and paste this in:
%Userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp folder

It will open your temp folder.

Go to the toolbar>Edit>Select All
Then go back to File>Delete

FLUSH RESTORE POINTS
After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
To flush the XP system Restore Points.

Go to Start>Run and type msconfig Press enter.

When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings Link on the left.

Check the box labeled Turn off System restore on all Drives.

Reboot normally...Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.
THEN:
Then get an online virus scan here: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ Please select the Autoclean option when prompted.
or here: http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Download and install-

SpywareBlaster will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

IE-SPYAD puts over 4000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm#IESPYAD

Both are very small free programs that you run once, then again, you know this and then just occasionally to check for updates.

After This, Reboot and Post a Fresh HijackThis log.
And well take it from there =)

Do I need to create a new restore point? When it asked me if i wanted to make a new one, i wasnt too confident then. Thats prolly because i still may have some spyware on my computer (not exactly sure).
So again, should i create a new restore point?

if you turned system restore off, rebooted, and then turned system restore back on, it should have automatically created a new restore point.. there is an option in system restore to create a new restore point any time that you choose to create one.. i can't answer your question about learning which items should be "fixed" using hijackthis.. let's just be glad that there are people who are willing to help with it..

GUP998 If you would like to learn all this and maybe help oput in your free time.. you can go to SPYWAREINFO.COM and register.. then ask to join their BOOT CAMP.. it's a wonderful place to start.. and plenty of people to answer your questions! Smile

As for your log...Yes create a new restore point..

Now.. you iddn'tfix anything! this is what you need to do.. open hijackthis up.. scan again.. then in the squares next to the entries.. place a check mark next to the ones i sopecified in the previous post.. and only those! then click on FIX SELECTED ITEMS.... then rescan again and make sure those items do not appear in your new scan.. also post your new scan here.

well take it from there.
