| I have seen computers used as hardware firewalls on networks before, i really like that idea for people that have an extra computer laying around. So i was wondering if anyone knew of the software that is needed to run on these machines, (software for a hardware firewall). Any names would be great just to get me some to research because all i know about is gnatbox and id like to research on some more before i purchase. Thank you. |

hello
a linux based one smooth wall should do this.

for a couple of bucks you can get an install cd on the link i gave. works on older soft ware. at least it did on the one i had run it on.
i use a router with built in fire wall and soft ware firewall on gateway computer now and soft ware firewalls on all computers.
a believe fred langa had a write up on using a 486 as a nat on his system. google will allso find you lots.

| Yes, my router also acts as a firewall, however i just thought it would be good experience setting one up in my home network. I am 16 and already in training to be a computer tech, so i like to learn as much as i can on my own. Thanks for the info. |
