Is it normal for the AntiVir application to be denied access to files on my computer?

Hi RDB!
Welcome to Computer Cops!
Are you a user with an account on a server? Or, do you have adminstrative rights? Usually you need to be admin to properly configure and run AVPE. As such, you will need to enter the password for those files before you begin a scan.
As for the Windows Swap file, even mine is closed. Perhaps mrrockford can help better here. I'll ask him.
Best regards

Howdy,
Make sure you have "All Archives" checked in the config in the main program or check marks for the archives you want scanned.

I'm running XP home. All program settings are checked to scan everything. I even booted into safe mode as Administrator and I had the same results as running as a Owner\Administrator. I see Spybot's is protecting files but AVG and Norton in the past had no problem scanning most of the files except some word macro files set at high security. I dunno? |

Howdy,
I am assuming that your password protected zips were set by you. If this is so and you know that they are clean then you can put them on your ignore list, if not then do an online scan of your choice(I use RAV) to check those files.
Most AVs do not scan password protected zips. AVPE just lets you know about the fact that it can not scan those files.
Any other problems let us know.

These files in question are in use by the operating system when I try to open them. |

Hi RDB!
You can probably scan them when in Safemode.
Safemode for all platforms: http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml
Best regards
