I know this is totally basic, but is there a site or place that will tell EXACTLY step by step to reformat a harddrive? Our older e-machine is in need. I tried it once before and really screwed it up, evidentally I deleted the part with dos, I didnt do the partition right or something and I didnt save old files. I thought that was what you do, get rid of old files. It took a friend several days to restore, they couldnt get the cd rom to workwithout some creative computer work.
There is nothing on it we need to save, I just want to start new. I have the windows me disk I want to use, I heard its best to install 95 first and then upgrade to 98, then me. Is this best? I have all three disks.
To bad there isnt a disk you can put in that will just do it all for you.
Thanks for any help! |

Those sites have a lot of info, but what about partitioning so I can start in dos to get the cd drive operating? Thats what happened to me last time. Something about fdisk, partitioning and saving old files? Sorry Its a pain, I'm not really good at this, but I'm trying to learn. It also asks you about being a large hard drive do you want one partition or something? Whats best?
What do you do if you use one of those hdcleaners, to get the thing going again?
Thanks! |
