It would be nice if Benign only accessed the hosts file when necessary. It seems that any time I even look at the Options and press OK, Benign then proceeds to rewrite my hosts file, taking up a lot of system resources. This happens whether I made any changes to any of the options or not. It would be nice if this system resource intensive task was only preformed when changes were actually occurring. |

I don't have a WinXP machine around to check, but on Windows 2000 my HOSTS file is found in C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc. That's probably not too different from WinXP. The file is simply named HOSTS. There is no .txt or other extension. |

Hi I saw your PM to me getsteppin, but basically I would check the following locations pending your installation: (I see you have XP, but nonetheless...)
c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\
c:\winnt\system\drivers\etc
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
c:\winnt\system\drivers\etc
Most likely the "hosts" file may not exist, it may have an extension. Do a directory listing and see if its there with an extension. You can remove the extension safely to make use of the file.

I was going to post this on 26 Aug, but I wasn't sure whether it's totally factual:
I've seen a .SAM extension applied to HOSTS and LMHOSTS on some systems. But a search for HOSTS.* would turn that up. Telling the file manager to display hidden and system files might help, too. |
