V1.13, http://zonelog.co.uk/. I really like the additonal things that have been added to this version. Much more info can be gleaned with its use and I can submit my logs directly to DShield from the program as well. Check it out for all those who haven't already updated and especially those who haven't seen the program. |

Like JD, I use vizual zone and I must say it is very good - lots of options - does Zonelog have many features/ anything over and above what we have already?
Thanks

I don't use Visual Zone though had considered it but was happy with Zone Log Analyser. So, I cannot answer what it might have or not have that Visual Zone doesn't. Well, that's not true. It doesn't make reports to DShield automatically, but clicking my mouse once or twice isn't a problem. I am lazy but not that lazy! I have used ZLA through at least 4 to 5 versions and really like it. I got it about the same time I did ZA, and that was a few years ago, shortly after ZA went to 1.2 or something like that. It's been a long time.
Now that I have said all that, I will admit to having a slight problem with the new reporting feature to DShield with ZLA, one click or no. It isn't accepting my logs, and I do so hate to be rejected. Johannes Ullrich of DShield suggested that word wrapping might be the problem and that I might want to check with the author of ZLA for a workaround. According to the help file in ZLA, wordwrapping when sending the e-mail report might cause problems when sending reports to DShield and to turn it off if possible since firewall logs are assumed to not be wordwrapped. It seems that I haven't figured out how to do that yet.
Now, if any of you geniuses can figure this one out, I would greatly appreciate it. No. Don't tell me to switch to Visual Zone. I am not ready to quit yet. I still really like ZLA and particularly this new version which offers far more than the last version. If you want to know what it does, check out the history/screenshots pages of the product, http://zonelog.co.uk/history.html and http://zonelog.co.uk/screen.html. |

Aw, shucks... I appreciate that very much. I just sent off a message to ZL but don't know when or if I will get an answer. And, I was sooooo excited that ZLA now had a feature that was a time saver! I hate it when I can't figure things out like this that seem as if they should be so easy. I don't mind the hard things not working out, but this seems like a no brainer. WRONG, or I am the one without the brain! The following, as if you couldn't figure it out, is what I sent to ZL.
I recently upgraded to v1.13 of your marvelous product and was delighted to see that I could submit my logs to DShield right through the program. That was fantastic, as I've been submitting logs to them for quite some time now via their Internet interface.
In trying to use this feature, I've run into the first problem I've ever had using ZoneLog Analyzer in the 4 to 5 versions I've used. The help file says that word wrapping can be a problem with DShield due to their processors not recognizing wrapped words. It suggest that those running Netscape especially run into problems and to turn wordwrapping off in the mail program if possible. I run Outlook Express and find no way to turn it off. Due to this problem, my logs are being rejected when sent through ZoneLog Analyzer.
Johannes Ullrich of DShield wrote the following in reply to my inquiry as to what might be occurring. "It looks like your log lines are line-wrapped, where your email software is cutting off extra long lines. You may want to check with the ZoneLog Analyzer author if there is a workaround."
I now turn to ZoneLog Analyzer for help as I have had nobody else that has come up with an answer as to what to do to get my logs submitted and not rejected when sent to DShield via the e-mail submittal feature. Nothing I have tried has worked. Do you have any suggestions. I have found no work-around that solves the problem. Is this a bug or what?
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
I am off to bed...not Sedona. That comes later sometime. |

No problem. I changed my format this AM to Uuencode in send in plain text and upped my word wrapping to 132 as suggested by Matt Walker from ZLA. Yes, I did get a nice, quick reply. Then I set the format back to MIME. In the grayed out area, it showed the 132, so that part is OK. I have sent 2 reports since this AM and have recieved no confirmation at all this time, and from what I can see from DShield, my entries have not been posted, so I really don't know what to think at this point. Maybe I have to send in Uuencode and not MIME to make it work right, but that doesn't make sense to me.
I will keep on this and anything you might find is always appreciated. No, I can't take you to Sedona in payment as Mr. JKK would not like that too much, but I can give you a big "I owe you one". I would love to do that. |

I am already crying! Not because of Phoenix22 but due to getting back 2 more rejected log submissions from DShield. What Ive tried thus far has been a miserable failure, and I hate failure. I hate to say I quit! So, I have changed my font on OLE to Tahano 10 point from my norm of Arial 12 point, thinking that this might make a difference. Lord only knows why it should, but it's worth a try. In the meantime, I've sent in all the rejected entries via my old way, Internet interface, and they've been logged at least this way, so all is not a total loss. Just goes to show a smile can come out of small things. |

Hi JKK!
That's a strange one with the font -- as long as Phoenix hasn't got you crying!
No comments about what may (or otherwise) rise from a smile. A lot depends on the weather, I find (gardener's lore).
Regards

No problem. Sorry about your storms. I know about those suckers. We had a hellacious light show here the other night and I had to get up to take care of the puter. The poor cat was totally traumatized. Mr. JKK slept right through it! What the heck. Who cares what's going on as long as it's time for snoring!
The font changing didn't work nor has anything else I've tried since, so I guess I am just SOL. It isn't the first time, but, geez, I hate to have to give up!
As to getting Mr. Jkk upset...no, sirree, bobcat we wouldn't. He do have one fierce temper.
