computer kept restarting because of virus

Hi,

My friend's computer has been infected with virus and it kept restarting when you turn it on. Is there a way to fix it or to reformat it?

Please provide more information on your friend's PC. What Operating System, for example? Wink

Here's a list of what could be wrong:

Computer starts to boot but reboots itself automatically, again and again or random reboots.

Normally the problem is one of several things listed in order:

1. Bad power suppy or power cable not plugged in all the way.

2. Bad Video card, corrupt or incorrect drivers loaded for it.

3. Corrupt files or a Compressed (Drivespace) Drive on the boot drive.

4. Cooling fan on Power Supply has stopped or fan on CPU has stopped.

5. Bad or too slow memory chips.

Other causes of random Reboots:

Any of the above, or:

Adaptec Controller card (or some other card) trying to share an IRQ with Video card.

Boot sector Virus

Cyrix chips run very hot (use a larger heatsink and or fan)

Voodoo2 cards getting hot and causing random reboots in games (try an extra cooling fan).

I had the same problem after downloading a malicious file (silly me). The only solution for me was to format the drive and reinstall everything.

Actually, instead of a reformat you could have removed it with HijackThis. Wink

format c is the only way

i had a same problem..my computer would show the inital boot up screen but just as the windows were about to get loaded the computer would restart..in my case,some bad power supply had corrupted the BIOs of my computer..i had to take it to a computer repair shop where the hard disk was re-partitioned and operating system was re-installed.Why don't you have some repair tech check your computer?and a tip,you should use a stabelizer to prevent bad power supply.I've been using one since i had my problem and there haven't been any more problems so far.
