Has anyone had any experience using the free version of Avast! anti-virus? When my Norton expired I changed to AVG, and then I saw in a newsletter that Avast is so much better than Norton or AVG.
So far I like the warnings, but there is one I receive every day, and I know it is not suspicious mail, but the alarms sound for this particular person with each piece of mail. |

It's too new to me so I haven't checked as you did. So far on the suspicious mail I have just continued because I know it's safe. |

Well I tried Avast first - I liked its automatic update feature, but I know your not gonna believe this but Avast actually affected my floppy drive. Every time I went to use my flopply ( which is very infrequent) it would blow me out and my system (Win XP) and would reboot. I installed a new floppy with the same results - I questioned Avast support (which is VERY GOOD) and they couldn't figure it out. I uninstalled AVAST and have been using AVG for about 4 months and am very happy with it. I use to use Nortons, but it got over blown and with all the 2004 version problems, I decided to use AVG and I'm glad I did. ALSO I checked the "Virus Bulletin"
at http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archives/tests.xml?200311
and it showed AVG (Grisoft)"Passed" the November tests along with Nortons , Mcafee and Trend Micro and Avast (alwil) didn't.
You can't beat FREE and it seems that most of the people I talk to
are very happy with AVG. There has bee a problem lately with its free updates, but read through the forum and you'll find a work around that
works GREAT. Hope that helps you. |
