I have never used Avast, but after I trashed McAfee I downloaded AVG from Grisoft and I love it. It is free and is constantly being updated. Good Luck Very Happy

Hello freakinbluechair,

It's always a good idea to periodically check your anti-virus program's effectiveness with an online scan. Try:

http://housecall.antivirus.com/

I use Avast as a backup to AVG. Avast once found a virus that AVG missed.

Avast looks like they offer slightly better technical support - they have a support forum:

http://forum.avast.com/

in addition to email support:

http://www.avast.com/i_idt_144.html

and the usual FAQs:

http://www.avast.com/i_kat_25.html

You might consider trying to resolve your unstated errors at one of the above links. Smile

Hey K027 Very Happy I always love to hear from you! Do you have both anti-virus installed and only run one at the time? I had a previous problem with more than one installed so how do you suggest I use both AVG and Avast? Thanks in advance Laughing

Hello melmcbee,

AVG is my primary anti-virus program - I use it for automatic scanning (bootup, downloaded files, on-access). I use Avast for manual scanning only.

After deleting all of my browser cache files, I'll update both AVG and Avast, and then manually run full a system scan with each.

Both AVG and Avast can be configured after installation to not run automatically (resident mode), which helps avoid the problems created by simultaneous anti-virus scanning. Smile
