|
|
Since I installed NAV 2001 (3 years ago), my setting in Live Update options has been:
"Notify me when updates are available"
It always worked as expected, but a few weeks ago LU began to update automatically.
The setting keeps unchanged but updating proceeds without warning.
Searching in the Symantec knowledge base I found at
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/na...vy=&csm=no
a description similar to my problem (but speaking of NAV 2003).
Anyway, I applied the solution advised there.
But, unfortunatelly, the problem was not solved.
Info: Windows 98 SE+IE6
Any ideas?

Hello Peter,
A little trick that works for straightening out LU is to delete the BinHub folder directory from c:\program files\common files\symantec shared\virusdefs (or whichever drive you may be using for NAV.)
I know this works for versions 2002 through 2004, so please give it a try and let us know.

Thanks for your input!
I proceeded as you advised.
In a few hours, Norton Scheduler will check update status and we will know the result of deleting Binhub in NAV 2001.
I will keep you informed!

May be I was wrong about Norton Scheduler because a few minutes after posting my reply, LU connected to a Norton server and -without any warning- began downloading something.
I checked my firewall info: the download was almost 5 Mb big.
Going to Windows Explorer, I found out that the Binhub folder was rebuilt.
Size of this folder is 9.04 Mb, exactly the same as the original one, that I have deleted.
After next virus def update I will inform if behavior has changed. |

The BinHub folder is supposed to be recreated after a new LU. It was just another try.
I am still searching as well.

LU keeps doing things the way it wants!
Virus definitions -dated March 28- were updated automatically.

I'm still stuck with the same problem.
LU continues updating automatically!
Any new ideas?

yes upgrade to Norton System Works 2k2........if you can still find it.......otherwise 2k3.....but hold off on 2k4........the foot print on 2k3 and 2k4 is huge .......I went back to 2k2 from 2k3 and all is well w/my w98se box.......and disable lu and use this on a daily basis:

phoenix 22,
Thanks for your advises!
I have not decided to go to NAV2k2, since I am still using Win98 SE, but your experience makes me confident. I'll try to get it.
Meanwhile, I like and will study your approach on disabling LU and updating manually. I was not aware of that possibility.
Thanks again and best regards.
