Hammer,
This might be a gross over-simplification of the problem you have ... but that's very similar to the error message I receive with .b9 added to the POP mail server name ... but Benign isn't actually running.

I had the same problem. B9 installed a file called Hosts in the root directory of my C drive. Move it to the Windows folder and all was OK.

Don -- You were right. Moving the HOSTS file did the trick. B9 is now workin' hard for the money. Thanks much! -- Hammer |

When I try to open Outlook Express Version 6.0 it takes a very long time to open -- approximately 3 minutes. Then it takes another minute or two for my incoming messages to display. I am running Windows XP Professional. This problem started about two months ago.
How do I fix this problem? It was working fine before this problem developed. |

Try doing these two things. Disable the rule checking in Express and see what occurs afterwards.
Second if this works, reenable the rule checking and disable the email checking part of your antivirus program.
In the case of Outlook, not express, this is a problem that seems to exist on some XP systems, maybe the problem migrated to Express as well.
There appears to be an interaction between certain virus checkers when launch while a mail run is being made with rules enabled.

I have a similar problem in that OE 6.0 opens very slowly running XP Home. I can offer the following help. I have read that sometimes removing or disabling Windows (or MSN) Messenger causes OE to open slowly. This will be shown by an entry in the system error log Dr. Watson: The server {FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout. If this error message shows up when you open drwtsn32 (Click on Run and type in "drwtsn32" without the parentheses), there is a suggested fix for the Regedit. However, I was afraid to delete the Default values as suggested, since I did not find any error messages in Dr. Watson. If you do find the {FB7199...} error message above, the suggested fix is:
Open Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
\CLSID
\FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}\InProcServer32
In the right-hand pane, double click on the (Default) value and delete whatever is entered there, leaving it blank. Click OK. Now perform exactly the same step on the key directly underneath, namely \LocalServer32.
Once both (Default) values are empty, OE should open normally.
As I said above, I was afraid to delete these values because I did NOT have any message errors in drwtsn32. If anyone has any suggestions for me I would appreciate help. |
