Ah, its great to see someone who knows about the worlds best wines. Being a Kiwi (from NZ) I would also mention "Stoneleigh" from the Marlborough Region and also "Giesen". Both are Sauvignon Blancs and perfect.

their websites...

http://www.stoneleigh.co.nz
http://www.giesen.co.nz

both wines now come with screwcaps which is another innovation, moving away from traditional cork.

cheers

I second Lilliebet65 on that.I suppose she wanted to write savoir faire
and that it was just a typo.

Hey Blast I hope you won't mind if I disagree with you about the best wines in the world.Everyone has his favourites and NZ wines(altough very
good especialy the whites) are not the "best wines" in the world IMHO. Wink

Je pense que vous et taking the mickey out of me Laughing

You know my English is as good as a New Zealand wine and my French is as good as German one.

But yes, for a vin blanc - it has to be French mais pour un vin rouge - you can't beat les espanols

(Hey that's not bad considering how much vin blanc I've had this evening!)

LoL Lilliebet65 Smile

And congrats for your French language(mainly after a few glasses of white wine).According to it there must be some excellent German wines
(and indeed there are Wink ))

Did you try some Hermitage,Côtes Roties, or Cornas? You might
like them

Have a great Sunday Smile

If you have the opportunity give a try(or rather a sip Wink ) to
the Wachenheimer Gerumpel Riesling Spatlese from BURKLIN-WOLF
it's a very good DRY wineIMHO

You can also try the wines from Egon Muller or Maximin Grunhauser
they both have some very good dry wines.

So you'll maybe change your mind Rolling Eyes Smile

PostPosted: Sun Dec 14, 2003 6:01 pm    Post subject: Gewürztraminer Reply with quote

Ladies,
I agree completely concerning the superiority of cork to screwcaps ... although, as a general rule, I am not against the innovative contributions of technology in even the most traditional areas.

Did you know that it was Don Perignon who in the later half of the 17th century first employed cork for bottling his Champagne? It was then that the cork revealed it's incomparable capacity for preserving the qualities of wine. It not only preserves them but sometimes actually aids in their development. I learned about this on the following site (Francophones seulement):

http://www.amorimfrance.com/accueil.cfm

I can't see the act of unscrewing a cap, as opposed to carefully pulling a cork, associated with la dégustation d'une bonne bouteille... it just doesn't cut it.

Back to the original topic: Gewürztraminer is a wonderful cepage that favors cooler climates and therefore is well cultivated in Germany as well as NZ...

Now I know that Gewürztraminers are Alsacien, but... there's something unmistakingly German about l'Alsace and Gewürztraminer wines, you must admit. And, they do indeed make for an excellent white, whether you like them dry or semi-dry.

Claire and Lillie, may I invite you for a glass in our lovely tavern?

Mesdames, je reste votre très humble et très fidèle serviteur,
G-Spot de Bergerac

Salut G-spot, your knowledge of the grape is only surpassed by your extensive knowledge of the grain.

I have to confess, to my shame, that I am not beyond buying wine in a box occasionally Embarassed but I would like to assure you my reasons for doing so are sincere.

Firstly, it's cheaper, secondly, there's lots more of it and thirdly, even a screw top is beyond me after that much vino.

I am at this moment partaking of a cheeky little South African white, well beyond remembering the name but I'm lifting a glass to my Canadian chums as you read this. Cheers!

It has been known that all great wines (where ever their heritage) can be followed by a great screw. Now I am suggesting that we start off with a screw as well. Nothing wrong with the concept.

Sure we can throw in some language changes or add a little quip or quote to fluff up the pre match entertainment and thats great. Lets not forget that its not the way you start off the bottle but the way you finish it.

pai waina tonu hanga nui hoa (worthy wine always creates great friendships)
