WorldCom showed it’s still in the enterprise hunt today with the launch of a global managed firewall solution targeted at enterprises in Asia, Canada and Europe.
The company’s Managed Firewall service will turn what previously had been a domestically supported service into one with local support in each international region.
"We support global firewalls today, but they are U.S. centric. They are staged, distributed and spared out of the U.S. With this solution we will be doing in-country support and in-country sparing,” said John Zymaris, director of product strategy and development at WorldCom.
Using technology from Check Point Software and its own Check Point certified technicians and engineers, WorldCom will offer 24/7 support on firewall services for its Internet Collocation, IP virtual private network, dedicated Internet and remote access customers.
This is part of a broader continuum of security services from WorldCom.” Zymaris said. “With Check Point software and a new hardware platform, we have a greater degree of flexibility to offer the right sized solution for the right customer.”
The managed firewall service will be aimed at both the large enterprise space and the small- to medium-sized business market. The service features an online security customer portal that provides customers real-time access to reporting and trouble ticket services. It also provides URL checking, configuration backups, disaster recovery support and annual third-party security scans for a starting price of $1,400.00.
“Customers today view security as inherent to the network solutions they purchase. They expect it to be there,” said Bob Blakley, senior manager of security services at WorldCom.
On July 21, WorldCom and substantially all of its active U.S. subsidiaries filed voluntary petitions for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.
