Viruses
Anonymous writes "I'm a member of Webring, which has decided to allow numerous pop up ads which most people can live with. However, one of it's advertisers, Xupiter.com automatically downloads it's software on your computer without consent, which attaches itself to the PCHealth Filies of your computer, which disables system restore as it will not delete protected files. Furthermore, you can't delete the files individually as the computer recognizes them as protected files. The Xupiter virus disables and overrides your search engine so that only thier products are displayed, such as Porn, On-Line Gambling, Viagra. No uninstaller is provided nor is there an e-mail address or help section on their site. All visitors to Webring will get the virus if on for more that 5 minutes as it auto downloads. This is worse than the klez Virus as there are no tools to fight it."

Can I direct you to this forum, where we've resolve Xupiter issues:

http://www.spywareinfo.com/yabbse/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=1066

Spybot Search & Destroy will remove all components of this hijack. It's a spyware scanner from http://patrick.kolla.de/spybotsd.html. You'll need to update it as soon as you download before running a scan, by clicking Online, then check for updates. Tick all the boxes except the language packs if they're not needed, then run your scan.

To eliminate language packs from future scans, right click each individually and click exclude from list.

The free program Ad-aware from www.lavasoft.de safely and easily removes Xupiter, Huntbar and other browser hijackers and spyware programs.

Use the latest reference file dated 9-24-2002.

i somehow got the Xstupider, err xupiter gay ass toolbar while searching for some files on the web. this really pissed me off when it slowed my internet down to a crawl after clicking a link. the people or person responsible for this VIRUS should be shot. i got rid of it fairly easily by searching for the word xupiter in my system registry and deleting all the reg keys and all the gay files on the HD. if i want a new toolbar, homepage, or search engine i would change it myself, i dont need some non-working toolbar that was made with a firstgraders knowledge of programming to crash my machine. this really pissed me off. i could make a better and more stable toolbar with QBasic than these idiots at XStupiter can ever progrgam.

There is a way. but pain in the ***.

Go to regedit and erase everything with starts with xupit*.*.

Don't forget to erase the cache of your browsers before you start with it and change possible start pages into open blank browser.

This took me 30 minutes.
Then add into the browser at security pages:

xupiter.

You as long as save as no illiterate person uses your computer again, who confirms something again.
