Madrid, March 6, 2004 - This week Oxygen3 24h-365d has focused on the issues
summarized below (*):
- The Netsky.D worm is spreading rapidly and causing incidents worldwide
(03/01/04).
The Netsky.D worm, which was detected just a few hours ago by PandaLabs, has
started to spread extremely rapidly and is causing a large number of
incidents worldwide. Panda Software has released its free PQRemove utility
which detects and eliminates Netsky.D from infected computers. This tool can
be downloaded free of charge from:

- The D, C, and B variants of Netsky, along with Bagle.C and Bagle.E are
causing a worldwide epidemic (03/02/04).
The current wave of viruses which includes the C, D and E variants of
Nestky, as well as the Bagle.C and Bagle.E worms, has reached epidemic
proportions worldwide. They are all spreading at an alarming rate and,
according the data collated by PandaLabs, there are now millions of infected
e-mails in circulation. This current epidemic is particularly worrying for
companies, as all the viruses propagate aggressively, meaning that they can
rapidly collapse corporate networks.
- The epidemic caused by the Netsky and Bagle variants is not letting up
(03/03/04).
Variants D, B and C of Netsky, and E and C of Bagle are still spreading
rapidly and infecting a large number of computers. These threats are now
accompanied by Mydoom.A which, after causing a worldwide epidemic in
January, is once again generating incidents around the globe. According to
data collected by PandaLabs, thousands of computers in corporate
environments are currently infected by these malicious code and millions of
e-mails infected by one of these worms are in circulation. This situation is
made worse by the constant appearance of new variants, such as J and K of
Bagle, and variant G of Mydoom.
- Serious vulnerability in WinZip 9.0 (03/04/04).
A serious vulnerability has been discovered in WinZip, which could be
exploited by a hacker to run arbitrary code on affected systems. For this
reason, all users of this popular file compressor are advised to install
version 9.0, which fixes this security flaw.
- Top Ten viruses most frequently detected by Panda ActiveScan in February
(03/05/04).
According to data collected by the free, online antivirus solution, Panda
ActiveScan, in February 2004 Mydoom.A was by far the most damaging virus
worldwide. This malicious code was responsible for 14.04 percent of
infections. This worm is followed by Downloader.L (5,99%), Netsky.B (5,98%)
and Nachi.B (4,53%). The malicious code occupying from fifth to tenth place
were all less recent examples, but which nonetheless continue to damage
users' computers. These include the polymorphic Parite.B, (3,52%), the
veterans Bugbear.B (3,39%) and Klez.I (2,65%), as well as the worms (2,07%),
Sober.C (1,96%) and Blaster (1,94%).
