I had a lot of spyware infestations on my computer, which I have presumably gotten rid of for the most part. I also use Zone Alarm now. One thing I noticed is that intruders frequently tried to access my system when using IE, but with Mozilla the intrusions were negligble,as well as the pop-ups. So I started blocking IE all together in ZA & using only Mozilla. Then I would get error msgs about IE not being able to retrieve a page or an about blank page would occur. Does this mean that ther was still spyware on my system trying to use IE as a portal to the internet?
Also, do you experts reccommend Mozilla or IE & why
& lastly, I had an email returned to me which I did not send from a company which stated that for security reasons it no longer accepted email with attachments. Does this mean that someone hijacked my email address to perform evil deeds?
Thanks? |

If you had alot of spyware, chances are you might also have a virus/trojan. If you have an av, update it & scan. If you don't, run a online scan (this will most likely require ie). Read the sticky's here: http://www.computercops.biz/forum3.html for some links to online scanners.
I use Mozilla Firefox for my browser needs. Mozilla based browsers do not support ActiveX and are therefore not susceptible to hijacking & other security problems this presents. IE can be setup to be more secure, but that's another topic.
About the email, alot of virus/trojans spoof the senders address. If your virus/trojan free, then someone that has your email address probably has one.

Supposedly with the new service pack for WinXP you'll be able to rid yourself of the ActiveX problems. But as usuall only time will tell when theere will a be a work around. I believe Microsoft finally easing away from ActiveX, its about damn time I've never liked it...thanks for the link |

One thing we all need to watch is our cache folder. Many trojans and mal-scripts are downloaded to this folder during browsing without our knowledge, usually. If your using IE you need to especially watch this folder because IE's default settings don't clear the cache folder upon closing.
I once had a link about Mozilla vs IE, I believe it had some security comparisions... |
