|
|
Hi there - I am running NAV 2003 and recently had a spyware problem which is now resolved. I noticed that the forums all said before running NAV to disable System Restore and then reeenable it after completing the scan. Apparently when System Restore is active it prohibits NAV from looking in certain system folders or files making them a good huiding place for nasty code.
Leads me to this question ... (I knew I would get there eventually) ... is it a waste of time to do a full system scan without first disabling System Restore ?
Interested to hear any thoughts on the subject.
thanks |

Hi k_iwi,
I don't think it is a waste of resources. It is good to know if you have something nasty in your Restore Points.
That can prevent some unwanted surprises from happening.
NAV does look in those folders, it just can't delete anything from them.
Which is good, because the Restore Point would be damaged and unusable if something was deleted.
HTH,
Pieter

Hi Metallica
Thanks for the info... it makes perfect sense!
From now I think my practise will be to continue regularly performing a full system scan and every now and again disable System Restore and then full system scan.
Thanks again for your advice/help. I consider this thread closed.
