Posted: Fri Mar 26, 2004 1:35 pm Post subject: Different Virus Def dates for different OS's? |
|
|
My "definitions" date, having just manually updated my virus definitions using the NAV component of North System Works 2003 (NSW 2003) on my Windows XP Home based computer, is 3/25/04.
Interestingly, I also have NSW 2003 on my Windows 98 SE based laptop, and when I updated my virus definitions on that computer, just after updating my XP Home based PC, the virus definition date shown in the NAV component of NSW 2003 on the laptop said 3/24/04.
I thought that was "odd" since both computers have NSW 2003 I would have thought they would have the same virus definitions date (being updated at the same time), but perhaps the difference in the virus definition date is due to the different operating systems each PC uses.
Anybody have a similar setup (i.e., a Wind9.x computer with NSW 2002, 2003, or 2004, and also an XP OS based 'puter with NSW 2002, 2003, or 2004) they can compare with my results?
No big deal, I'm just curious. Nella |

I don't know for sure but my guess would be that it was a function of the server from which the update came rather than the OS of your computer. Your Operating System doesn't dictate what updates you get. Anyway, that's my guess. |

BillC,
Thanks for your feedback. Although the date difference arouses my curiosity, my main problem is fixing a LiveUpdate problem. I've decided to completely uninstall NSW 2003 when I have time, as I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling LiveUpdate, to no avail.
Anyway, I did run the different date issue by Symantec Tech Support, and even though I don't think their response (below) applies to me, I've copied it below, FWIW. Nella
