|
|
I discovered that I have a nasty piece of spyware on my computer that has hijacked my search results. I get search listings that are not relevant to my search now, the results are put right on top of the yahoo and google search results and I also get a lot of pop ups that crash my system.
Adaware cannot find it... I found that the listings are pointing to many subdomains on searchassistant.net. Can any one here suggest how I can get rid of it? |

When ever i log onto my settings i find that there is a search bar on my toolbar at the bottum of my desktop. I can get rid of it by right clicking the toolbar, then clicking on toolbars, and then clicking on search assistant. That will get rid of it for as long as i am still on my settings but if i sign off and then sign back on it will be there again. I keep getting rid of it but allways comes back. Is there anyone who knows how to get rid of it for good? |

I had that searhc assistant thing come up too. I tried to just remove it from my startup programs, but it just puts itself back on. I found that it is listed in the computer as the program "Bridge". I Found it ran from 'Downloaded program files' in the 'Windows' directory. Its not listed As "Bridge" there, but some abreviation for it. Ife you just delete that I think you should be ok. |

Use a program called 'Hijack' to detete BHO (Binary Helper Object) from this program. You can leave to delete if something seems to be familiar there (i.e - google, yahoo, etc). However, this doesn't delete it permanently. Does any body has an idea of deleting this permanently? |

I also have the same annoying Search Assistant in my Task Bar. I have run Hijack This and want to know if I can just post my log in this forum for some expert advice. I suspect the following line out of my log may be causing my problem:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {000020DD-C72E-4113-AF77-DD56626C6C42} - C:\WINDOWS\twaintec.dll
There is also this line that has no name:
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {62999427-33FC-4baf-9C9C-BCE6BD127F08} - (no file)
Any help would be appreciated.

You can have hijackthis fix both these lines.
If you google on the cslid in your O2 entry, you'll see an X associated with it in the computercops info reference.
One set of twaintec removal comments.
http://216.239.51.104/search?q=cache:Qm...trol&hl=en
The toolbar line that says no file is a leftover from something and can be removed. |

Dear Guesswork
Thanks for your reply.
I have now used HijackThis to fix those two previously mentioned items from my log, but after reading the Computer Cops tutorial re the HijackThis log, I suspect there are more items to be fixed to solve the Search Assistant problem - such as these 3:
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - - (no file)
O2 - BHO: MyWebSearch Search Assistant BHO - {00A6FAF1-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\MYWEBSEARCH\SRCHASTT\1.BIN\MWSSRCAS.DLL
O2 - BHO: mwsBar BHO - {07B18EA1-A523-4961-B6BB-170DE4475CCA} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\MYWEBSEARCH\BAR\1.BIN\MWSBAR.DLL
I have pasted my complete HijackThis log below for your perusal and assistance:

I assume that if I were to have HijackThis fix and therefore remove something that I would be able to use XP's System Restore function to correct it if I later found that it should not have been removed?
Many thanks

I am so fed up with this search assistant thing in my toolbar. It takes me to a Blaze seach web page if I use it. You can ask for it not to be shown, but back it comes a few key strokes later. I have run Ad-aware, Spybot, HighJackThis, CWShredder, all to no avail (although they all managed to remove other stuff I didn't know I had!)
Can anyone advise how to get rid of this (it is the one with a white text entry box, a white arrow in a green square and the word Search in black text, it is located on the right side of my Start/toolbar.

I just dont get it. Why the hell is this nation so hell bent on spam?? The real problem is the one that you CANT SEE, spy/adware. I guess your average Joe cluelessaboutcomputers doesnt fight what he cant see. Unfortunately, for the rest of us who know something, it is a constant battle, to have to LOCATE, and remove this malicious crap. Thank you Walt Rines from Odysseus marketing, the vilinous mastermind behind searchassistant, yet another moneymaking scheme. Why our congress doesnt care about this crap is unreal. Tell me, how is it legal for you to observe my url, visiting different websites, in anticipation that I may make money for YOU??!?!?Then, WITHOUT MY APPROVAL, you graciously leave something that "I might need or enjoy", waiting there on my desktop. How convieniant!
So is it ok for me to sit in my car waiting for you to leave home, then follow you around to see where you shop, and what places you visit, then I'll race to your home, and leave a bunch of ads for flyers of the places that you visited earlier(and similar ones associated with me), in the hopes that you might pay for one of their services?? Is that legal, cause it sounds alot like stalking.
INVASION OF PRIVACY IS ILLEGAL D|CKHEAD!!!!! |
