|

Hello!
I move around quite a lot while I am here and I've begun getting
Quote: |
We are currently performing site maintenance |
pages when I click on any link from time to time. I usually have to make a workaround to get passed them. I'm on Win98se running Opera 7.23 with Proxomitron N4.5 on default config.
Do you know why these are showing up?? TIA

I didn't work on anything today, but it sometimes comes up due to high serverload.

Hi Paul!
I had wanted to respond to this post earlier this afternoon, just about a half hour after your post when suddenly every time I clicked on anything for CCSP I was given DoS (denial of service) with that screen that says you're doing "scheduled maintenance." If it's "scheduled" how come there was no site announcement? Is it possible that someone could be using the site diagnostic against itself??
Otherwise, I suppose the server may have been overloaded. Was everyone else denied or just me? Looks suspicious to me because I've never had this problem before without any notification from you. Can the server differentiate between logged on Staff and guests?
Best regards from Larry

I was getting that screen as well. A bit of a pain since it would hit when I was submitting a post. Clicking my browser's 'back' button would go back alright, but sans the text I'd laboriously placed in the text box.

Hi Ikeb!
Thanks for the post here.
Tip: One thing I do before most every post is copy it into my clipboard before I click "submit," just in case something goes wrong. I've had that experience at some other sites. It's a major PITA when you lose all the writing you just did.

It's just that I don't normally run into that here. Thus it's usually a waste of time doing the "backup". That'll teach me eh?

It used to say something different until I was going thru scheduled maintenance. I just didn't change the wording... Its one of the measures that is used to prevent the server load from rising too high from potential attacks. The server itself is seeing between the two sites 7+ million hits monthly, or about 470 kb/s.
The real solution is to get both sites on their own servers to spread the load.

Thanks Paul!
You've set my mind at ease. So if the server is getting overloaded and we get the "scheduled maintenance" page, we can wait and come back later. Okay. That's cool.
I was a little frustrated by it because I was in the middle of a 1st Response and suddenly I'm gone.
My premium money order is on it's way today by snail mail. With more of those maybe we can get two servers?
All the best from Larry

Yes with more options exist to make things faster and expand hardware. Typically those messages don't last for very long. Within a couple minutes all should resolve.
