"Abstract: In some WhenU software, including software still available on WhenU's ordinary public web site as recently as May 2004, a flaw in WhenU's self-updating feature allows an attacker to install software on users' computers, via methods such as spoofing a DNS response or hijacking a TCP download. Using these methods, attackers can obtain full control over PCs running the affected WhenU software -- allowing the installation of any software the attackers choose. "

Anonymous writes "Not certain if your aware, but I came across your site simply because www.ryan1918.com/org points to it. Ryan1918 is normally a script kiddie site that hosts all kinds of trojan viruses for the kiddies to download and compile. Probably one of the biggest on the net, having all your favorites, sdbot, gaobot, phatbot and so on. I despise them and have been trying to get the site taken off the net for a while now, legally. As I work for a ISP and deal with the abuse issues and s***** like these kids only create issues. "

Featured Commentary: Responsibility and You!
by Bill Gray, CCSP Staff Writer
April 8, 2004
Sometimes we all feel like blaming someone for the hassles we now find ourselves in. Sure, there are plenty of people to blame, like the spammers or the hackers, maybe the virus or the trojan, or the friend that sent the email. What if we were to accept responsibility for everything, where would that leave us?

Anonymous writes "Slotch should be banned and/or outlawed. I thought hijacking was supposed to be illegal. I was searching for a website to register a legitimate product and, before I knew what happened, I was hijacked by Slotch. It took over my homepage and installed additional software in an instant. It would not allow me to re-set my home page and kept defaulting to itself.
Since there was no uninstall, I attempted to locate and delete any and all file references which, to my dismay, only made matters worse. I was no longer able to get to the internet to locate downloads which could have destroyed this monster and, ultimately, has totally disabled any computer access. This now necessitates having to take my computer in for service to clean out the garbage and re-install all my operating systems and, hopefully, salvage my data."

At first it seemed normal, the woman was agreeable to the asking price, then she went on about how she was on a UN peace keeping mission in Liberia and well here is what she wrote:"

Warning: virus terrorism stories may contain nuts
By John Lettice
Virus writers probed for terror ties, says Reuters firmly, the ensuing story making it clear - should this have been necessary - that we are here talking about virus-toting terrorist groups, rather than a predilection among virus authors for unfortunate neckwear. But on the other hand, that's something the UK's National High-Tech Crime Unit could equally well throw our money away on, if that's what it's doing.
