Hassle
Anonymous writes "Slotch should be banned and/or outlawed. I thought hijacking was supposed to be illegal. I was searching for a website to register a legitimate product and, before I knew what happened, I was hijacked by Slotch. It took over my homepage and installed additional software in an instant. It would not allow me to re-set my home page and kept defaulting to itself.

Since there was no uninstall, I attempted to locate and delete any and all file references which, to my dismay, only made matters worse. I was no longer able to get to the internet to locate downloads which could have destroyed this monster and, ultimately, has totally disabled any computer access. This now necessitates having to take my computer in for service to clean out the garbage and re-install all my operating systems and, hopefully, salvage my data.

Slotch would be the first to cry foul if someone tried to limit them, but what recourse do I have when Slotch usurps my constitutional rights and liberties and literally invades my privacy, my home, and forcibly deprives me of my choices as a result of its invasive techniques?

I have had to use my computer at work in order to send this message until my home computer can be made whole. Is Slotch going to reimburse me for the damages they have inflicted upon me? The answer, of course, is no! Slotch is a menace to computer society and should be disclaimed and ostracized as such!

Thank you for allowing me to vent my anger and frustration. "

My computer was attacked by Slotch. I came home, took one look at my messed up screensaver, and knew something had happened. It was badly blurred, and my computer was put into safe mode. A toolbar appeared on the bottom of the screen, and I had no idea where it had come from, the clock was two hours off, and when I tried to go to the internet, there was the Slotch site instead of my regular homepage. I kept getting popups. I've had this computer since 1998, and never had anything like this. I put the restore
CD for Windows 98 in the CD Rom drive, and ran it, which cleared up the mess pretty well, then reinstalled the programs that I wanted. Then I went online and searched for a free anti-virus program, downloaded it, found 16 viruses on my computer, mostly Trojan Horse. The program is called AVG 6.0 Anti-Virus System, and it found and removed the viruses. I feel fortunate that I could straighten out my computer on my own, because I know how costly it could have been. I, too, believe that this Slotch site should be banned and outlawed.
