I just joined up today. I need to know how to start using the CCSP toolkit. I am a little computer literate or as my son is always telling me that I have just enough knowledge to be dangerous. |

Welcome to the site. One way you get can started is by using the 'Reveal your IP' module. It'll tell you if we're catching your correct IP address. That is a good indication that our scanners are getting you and not some server in between.

I hope this is what you asking for:
*edit by mod* deleted for user safety
MSIE
Windows 2000
I have Norton personal firewall running as NV anti-virus and Pop-UP stopper.
The reason I was asking how to use the toolkit is that I keep getting a popup box from Norton saying I have a trojan horse and to run the antivirus scan. I have scanned all files three times this past week and nothing is found.
I been having a lot of pop ups every since I did some research last week. Then suddenly today I realize that my personal firewall was not enabled. Stupid on my part!!!!!! |

Thanks, you can remove your IP address to keep it private (use the edit button in your post above). If that is your IP address, then try running the Trojan scanner and post back your results.

Thank for reponse,
I have tried 3 times now to use the Trojan scan. It does nothing. Should I disable both my firewall and antivirus program? |

Well you could disable it if you like.. .but if nothing is coming back with open connection results, then your security is working. If norton is not finding anything, then I'd recommend trying a second scan thru something like housecall:

Paul,
Thank you for your answer. I did as you suggested and no trojan horses was found and every file was clear. Thanks again for this forum. |

Just noticed your post. You probably cannot remove that file because it looks like a Windows essential system file. The thing to do here is not to panic. Make a copy of the file, zip it with a program such as WinZip and then send it by email to AVG to see if it really is infected.
An alternative to that route, if you wish, is to check it with another freeware antivirus program such as Antivir Personal Edition. http://www.free-av.com/ Just like in medical matters, it never hurts to get a second opinion. Antivir can show you what other files may have been damaged as well if you really have a virus.
Btw, what is your OS and what name did AVG give the virus?
Hope this helps you. |
