Would anyone have a work around for updating AVG. In the free version, you can set a specific time to check for updates, but if your not on the internet at that time, it doesn't update and you have to do it manually. Its no biggie but Is there a way to have AVG update when you go on the internet automatically like NAV does? |

Not natively. How do you connect? What do you press? The path and name of the shortcut. |

I use Verizon DSL, but don't leave the computer
on all the time. The Modem and Linksys router are always on, but I only turn on the computer on when I'm using it for security reasons. I have AVG scheduled to check for virus updates at 8PM, but if I don't turn on the computer on till 9PM then I miss the scheduled check and have to remember to do it manually. Like I said its no biggie, but was just wondering if instead of scheduling the virus update by a set time, if I could have AVG sense when I was connected to the internet like Norton Antivirus does and check for updates then. |

I have written a script. It gets the current time. Then it sets the reg key AVG Control Center reads for the Update Time to five minutes ahead of now. The script Kills AVG Control center and restarts it so Avg will see the change. Otherwise it won't read it. Then it starts Internet Explorer. What you could do is put the script in your startup folder on the start menu. You are always connected. I could remove the Start IE. And so when you start, it will reset the update time.
Want to try it? I hate shutting down AVG while you are connected, it is only for a second though.
The only drawback is that you end up with an extra AVG icon in systray. But that goes away if you pass your mouse over it.
I am about to sign off. Let me know. |

That would be GREAT! Really appreciate that! And If you could remove the IE startup that would really work out well. I would appreciate it if you could email me that script! |

What's the path to your AVG Folder please.
Mine is
D:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6
And how many minutes do you want to wait until the update? |

I assumed your install was on the C: Drive and changed it to reflect that. Mine is on D:
Have a good day. |
