TMOV and I have been discussing how to bring hardware more into the game at CCSP. I wanted to bring to an open arena so that others may participate. Obviously hardware would take on a security perspective. And we'd also focus it on the front page news too.
Oh TMOV...

Oh TMOV... |
Thank you for the invitation to meet you here on this new thread posting .
in the last couple of weeks due to activity in the news at news sites around the world we have been all given a wake-up call about the need to remain alert about the security of the web.
reports come out and are published in daily newsletters that some subscribe to and then the items that interest us individually get posted here at CCSP.
one of the items was in regards to hardware that is an integral part of security.
as i wrote to PAUL,
we have a tendency to look at security as relating to numerical codes only.
but if it were not about the hardware that we run this code on we would be looking at our cd roms that contain a mysterious long list of ones and zeros and not even know that we had something that we could use.
i asked about a small window that could be used to list links to sites where we could access info about the latest advancements in hardware.
as i said to Paul, not so much as to experience a one- stop shopping experience in the retail shopping sense but to make the site more rounded and give more of a one stop shopping experience in the more informative sense .
although it might not be a bad idea to list links to price sites like pricegrabber.com but there are more than just that one.
like tomshardwareguide.com which is an excellent source of information a bit like an online consumers union publication called "consumers reports".
toms also links to sites showing the best prices and shows interactive comparisons on demand.
paul asked me to address this publicly so that he could get a sense of what others that use this site might want to include in the area of information on the front page or a link from the front page to another area dedicated to hardware.
i also suggest links to sites that sell operating systems.
some are very agressive in their pricing and the competitive spirit is alive and well on the web.
so ,,,
now to you who have some ideas.
the forum is ready to accept your input.
respectfully submitted,
tmov

I think we could utilize some of the tools already set in place here. For instance, how about submitting hardware focused news articles as they pertain to security (including highlights to their expert sites).
In our hardware forum here, how about having a sticky chock full of this information, and also including those links in the Web Links module to name but a few ideas.

I've actually been talking with some colleagues about this but nothing has really come to fruition. I have to followup on the status.

Well hello! Finally got a chance to post here.
I reckon we'd be best splitting any products into price bands - loosely for 'Home'; 'SoHo'; 'Medium' and 'Money's not a problem'. I can think of some very pricey bits of kit that just wouldn't be an option for most users.
Actually, there are others here who install and configure this kind of hardware on a daily basis - Wizzard67 for one - and they know about much more exotic kit than I've dealt with.
I Agree, TomsHardware is a good place to start. There are others - many links buried away in http://www.iamnotageek.com/, for example |
