Good word Pat: panantitheist. I like that. It covers it quite well. As for the rest of your post: Amen.
Or should that be Right on brother!

I am a believer in Christ Jesus. I am 66 years old and became a Christian at the age of 61. I don't believe in argueing about this subject, but do believe in informing people what I belive. I do believe in God and Jesus Christ. I do believe in the Bible. I do believe that Jesus was born of a virgin, and that He died on the cross, went into the depths of Hell and arose on the 3rd day. He then acsended into Heaven. I also believe that he is preparing a place for me and will come back for me. I have that much faith in Him. I don't have enough faith to believe in the Big Bang theory. These are my beliefs. God Bless you all. |

Did you get to join the band of holy wailers because you are of an age whereby you thought " hey I aint got much time left, better join the in crowd before it's too late" or did something else arouse your interest?
It seems a little late to start casting aside previous beliefs. |

I don't think I am a "holy wailer" at all. I started reading and studying and found that the truth is in God..... No need to keep this up as I will not reply anymore. So you can believe what you want, and I am not questioning you about Your beliefs.

Mrs Hoppes I have a question for you. It's about stealing. It's hypothetical, but maybe you can try and answer it anyway. Here's the scenario: You're living in extreme poverty, you have seven children and no food at all. You have no more resources to buy food, and no friends to give you any. Your seven children haven't eaten anything in two weeks. They are starving to death. You find you have one opportunity to find food, but it means you must steal it from the rich people down the road. If you don't steal the food your children will die. What do you do? |
What do I do? Simple. Go to my pastor. Go to the police. Go to a shelter. Go to a soup kitchen. There are plenty of places and people around to help those in need.
And, I would also have sense enough to ask for help BEFORE my child has been starving for 2 weeks.
Bottom line is stealing is stealing is stealing and there is no reason to steal and using children as an excuse for commiting a crime is pathetic.
My husband and I have been homeless and hungry. There was help and we accepted it. If I had seven kids (it'd be a miracle, but then again, Charlie is a miracle since I was told I could not carry and had numerous miscarriages before him and spent the last two months on bed rest) and in that situation, I should be thrown in jail for neglect and stupidity. There are more women's shelters, homeless shelters, half-way houses, soup kitchens, and social service angencies in this country than you can throw a stick at. When DH and I were homeless, we did not have Charlie yet and it was difficult (but not impossible) to find help. We kept being told "if you had children..."
Wanna try another "situation" that may be a bit more realistic?

A very sobering and to the point answer Mrs Hoppes, the Salvation Army can be found everywhere there is a need.
Try this one!
An evil dictator is killing his fellow countrymen who opose him.
Is it right to go and kill him and his henchmen.
Is an "Eye for an Eye and a Tooth for a Tooth" |

This is a new one on me. The only reference I could find in all extant bible translations is an apparent statement by David (the prophet and progenitor)
Quote: |
Acts 2:31
He, having knowledge of the future, was talking of the coming again of Christ from the dead, that he was not kept in hell and his body did not see destruction.
|
Psalms 16 and 17 seem to indicate that David was talking about his own soul. Can anyone shed any light on this? Did Christ spend time in hell?

Evil henchmen... hmmm... interesting. Anything to do with current events?
Joshua was a military commander. The first recorded case of psychological warfare was under his command. When he and his men obeyed God, they did well. When they were disobedient to God, they did not do well. Now, what if it was our own gov't?
1Peter 2:13-17 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
Nothing happens in this world without God allowing it. There is a reason for everything.

Mrs. Hoppes, I fear you have missed my point quite completely. In some places in this world the situation I gave you is all too realistic, and in those places there are no pastors, police, shelters, soup kitchens, neighbours, or other Disneyesque saviours to supply succour to the needy.
Are there plenty of Salvation Army offices in South Africa aiding the millions dying of starvation, AIDS, and other ills that leave them utterly unable to supply sustenance for themselves or the hundreds of thousands of children that die of starvation each year? Hardly. In their case, is stealing for base survival such a serious crime? If they steal from those who have more than they need? I hardly think so. Of course, your mileage may vary. Maybe you think such starvation is justified through some twist of scripture or some other such piece of providential justice. Perhaps not. |

Current events as in the last century, there is always one group who, in the interests of those they serve, make a decision against the majority having elected them and without exception never fail to mention that "God" is on our side. What they realy mean is that their "sword is mightier than the Pen". Talking and Writing are not as effective as Bombs and Bullets in the first instance but people power will prevail. Youy cannot dictate to to those who do not wish to become part of your religion or culture. While we may preach forgiveness and love thy neighbor, the reality is that the majority do not want a mixed multi racial multi ethnic society. We may accept them but there is a saying here that sums it up quite nicely, (An Englishman's home is his Castle) I make look freindly but step over my threshold and I will kill you mentality.
In years to come Ethnic cleansing will prevail, there are divisions forming now where you get the getto's. You walk through a local busy town and see no English originals and you feel threatened. We cannot live as your God intended as we are all insular.
Anyway which book are you reading from because it does not read like that from James 1st edition.
That book has been orchestrated to deal with every problem.
Each religion has turned it to its own ends.
To quote those immortal words from that pop cult "The Bee Gees"
"It's only words and words are all I have"

With no one standard, morals and values change. Christ is the standard and society has done a marvelous job of throwing HIM out. The world is just going to get worse and worse as a result.
What do you all say in 25 years, we take a look at this thread and then tell me we don't need Christ. So will I "see" you all again on March 15, 2029? |
Youi say it is getting worse, just step back 100 years, it is a safer place now with less religion.

I was quoting King James 1611.
And how do you figure the world is safer now than 100 years ago?

No, SPF...I must agree again with MrsHoppes. You are a man of science, I thought...was it safer with muskets & single shots & some repeaters or is it safer now with weapons of mass destruction, like suitcase nuclear bombs or vials of pestulance or some flasks of chemical toxins set loose upon the innocent by some mindnumbed idiot evil pukes! The dire consequences are so much more far reaching & destructive now than most can even fantom or imagine! It is not a safer place now...

You're responding to someone else BooRad, not me. I have said nought about safety now versus safety in past times. |
