Well as a new "Cadet" and a faithful patron of "St Mattress", I agree with everyone. Not True!
I believe that everyone is dying to find out who had been right or wrong! If you do the argument of the the St Thomas Aquinas or the 13 charectistics of God and how he can let things happen, you become an agnostic!
Bible thumpers Suck! And, theny become so infatuated with Chaper and Verse memorization that they even forget what their initial focus was on! Go ahead and quote, I love it! I will say to you, what is the copyright version and how do you know that someone did not say, "Hey, if we do not write something to control these people and they do not see what is in store for them for bad behavior, we will have a problem in people management. So therefore, let's create a Bible".
What do you think of thank? And do not say that you will "prey" for me!

So, the point of religion is community. The point of faith and belief in a God or set of Gods is something else entirely. You must remember, even Pagan religions are religions, none the less. There's nothing Satanic about Pagan beliefs, just a belief in different Gods. I have never chosen to follow any one religion, only to apply relevant parts of many different ones to given my life more meaning and structure. You can pray at home just the same as any other building. |
Well to the point of religion is community, it is also a community to build and support your faith. Like what happens when a burning coal is removed from a fire, it eventually goes out when removed. However, if that coal is moved back into the fire it warms up again to the heat level of the fire.
As to the Pagan Beliefs, as not being Satanic, that depends upon the belief system that it embraces. I have a ton of Pagan friends and have been the token Christian, in that I play RPG's, attend RenFaires, and SCA events at different parts of my life. Satan (the being or ideal) can use many things to divide us include the Christian Religious ideals and beliefs. For specifics borrow the "Screwtape Letters", from your local library as it is an entertaining read by C.S. Lewis who wrote "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" and other of the Aslan books.

Eatmoredirt, do not get involved even discussing religion will increase your depression.
Religion is for those who feel the need to belong to a group or because they have lives that crave the need for involvement with others.
They then try to convince others that their religion is the chosen one and end up hating and killing those who oppose them, as this is against all religious teaching it makes a mockery of the whole religious circus.
Depression can be caused by having many problems in your head that your mind cant cope and shuts off the rational thinking side.
I, like many millions of others worldwide have also suffered from depression on several occasions.
I found that writing down all the things that were worrying or giving concern and then going to a hypnotist. I can now do self hypnosis it helps. |

If you are unable to use a Hypnoyist then write all your worries down and even things that you are just generaly repeatedly thinking about.
Keep writing about those problems-write about what you should do about each one.
Record each one on tape if you can and play back the problem and the answer.
Carrying out these two actions on a regular basis can help to off-load your problems, its like sharing them with someone else, when there is no one else.
(and thats advice from a real Reverend)come and join us at the Tavern for a drink and a sing song. |

There is a world of difference between faith and religion.
As for depression, my husband has chronic depression and is on medication for it.
His is caused by brain trauma. He also has seizures, migrains, and memory loss. He also has a plate in his head.
He was in the Navy onboard ship and a missle lift fell 3 decks and crushed his skull.
The medication works.
It works for those who need it. it doesn't for those who don't.
I am praying for you. |

this started out as a thread for religion and has metamorphosed into some thing quite different.
there was a point to all of this started by the author, the author wanted to know "what's the point of it".
then when people started making their posts in response the reaction was as if someone was trying to convert him.
i think that if someone is suicidal then they should go see their doctor and if they dont have one to go to the county hospital and tell them that he/she is suffering from suicidal ideation.
for anyone to think that discounting the severity of this condition is the way to go is to by implication or expressly permit the act of self destruction.
i'm interested in sending law enforcement personnel to his home to do a welfare check on him and then let them decide whether they should take him to the hospital and put him on a closed ward so that he doesn't go "AMA" which means take off and leave "against medical advice"
depression will not go away by "cheering someone up"
it's a medical condition.
