Two important things to remember when fighting depression.

1. There is always tomorrow. (unless you pull the plug)

2. It doesn't matter if there is a point to life, that question is unanswerable by fact and only belief can solve it and that you cannot prove in the logical sense. I believe there is a point, because I do.

3. No one is going to suicide here, talking about suicide is not suicide ideation.

I am a chronic chemical depressive, who has experienced an extreme period of hardship in a POW-like situation. If I didn't take my life then, you don't have my permission to quit on your life now. I experienced my confinement so that others might have a life of freedom and I have seen too many good men die for anyone to check out. Those men that died need people to live, if not for your sake, for theirs because the choice was taken from them when they were young. They believed in you even though they never met you, so much that they were willing to die for your chance. They are to me, the closest to God. A God who sent his son, like them, to die. In that dieing that you might believe that you are more worthwhile to God, than the suffering his son went through for us. (us = meaning you and me separately, it was done for us personally one at a time, we are just lucky it is a choice available to more than one person.)

Cobblers2U, we fought the Cold War not the Hot War and after the 1970's we were all Volunteers. We followed the orders of our governement because we believed that was the best way to preserve our way of life for our famlies and loved ones. BUT THERE ARE THOSE WHO MIGHT BE YOUR NEIGHBORS THAT MIGHT TELL YOU THAT IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR THE SACRIFICES MADE BY THE PREVIOUS GENERATION THAT YOU MIGHT BE SALUTING IN THE NAZI FASHION TODAY AND LIVING UNDER A TOTALITARIAN REGIME CALLED THE 4TH REICH.
NOW AS FOR ME, I SPENT MY 20TH BIRTHDAY AUG04TH1967 ON HILL 881, I AND APPROX 200 OTHER UNITED STATES MARINES DEFENDED THAT HILL AGAINST NORTH VIETNAMESE ARMY FORCES
THAT WERE SUPERIOR. WE DID IT OUT OF A SENSE OF DUTY!
WE TOOK AN OATH AND WE FOLLOWED A CODE OF CONDUCT.
I HAVE LOOKED INTO THE FACE OF A UNITED STATES MARINE AND WONDERED HOW IT WAS THAT HIS EYES WERE STILL IN HIS EYESOCKETS
THEN I JUST PICKED HIM UP TOOK HIM TO THE BATTALION AID STATION AND AS I WENT IN I ASKED THE BATTALION SURGEON WHERE HE WANTED ME TO PUT HIM AND THE DRS. FACE WENT ASHEN IN COLOR AND JUST SAID PUT HIM ON THAT GURNEY THERE.
AND THAT WAS THE LAST I SAW OF THAT MAN THE NIGHT OF JUNE 30TH 1967 INSIDE THE KHE SAHN PERIMETER THE TIME WAS 2345HRS LOCAL.
THE MEMORY IS INTENSE.
I'M GRATEFUL FOR HIS SACRIFICE THAT YOU AND OTHERS CAN DEPEND ON PEOPLE LIKE HIM
WHO WHEN WOUNDED SIMPLY LOOK UP OUT OF THE HOLE AND SAY " CLARKE, THEY GOT MY BEAK".
HIS NOSE AND ALL THE FRONT OF HIS FACE WERE GONE AND WE COULD NOT FIND ANY OF THE PIECES TO TAKE TO THE SURGEON TO SEE IF HE COULD SEW IT BACK ON.
AT 0530 IN THE MORNING ONLY A FEW HOURS LATER, THE NORTH VIETNAMESE ATTACKED AGAIN.
WHEN THE SUN CAME UP I WENT TO THE COMPANY OFFICE AND GOT MY ORDERS TO GO ON R&R.
I COULDN'T GET BACK TO THE UNIT FOR THIRTY DAYS BECAUSE THE NORTH VIETNAMESE WERE SHOOTING DOWN EVERY AIRCRAFT THAT WAS MAKING THE APPROACH TO THE KHE SAHN COMBAT BASE.
I THOUGHT I HAD IT BAD UNTIL I GOT BACK AND FOUND OUT WHAT HAD BEEN HAPPENING WHILE I WAS GONE.

I watched it day after day and thought what is this all for?
I also watched the newsreels and saw the millions of protesters as I have done with Iraq.
As to the German leader, was he not a charasmatic and a great leader in the begining? (JFK quote)
Would Europe have been a worse place under their rule? who knows?
All that I know is that millions of lives were needlessly lost (incuding my own family and I still hear the bombs dropping by the thousand)
If you dont fight they won't shoot you! but you then have the advantage of being able to remove them for they can not spot an enemy in non military clothing (Iraq 2004)

By the way I am a great believer in the Military.
They should be there to defend our lands and people and I have more to do with the Military than your wildest imagination could muster.
